Economic/Business Professor David Brat
Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell has appointed
Economics/Business Professor David Brat to the Virginia Board of Accountancy
(VBOA). He will fill the public member seat on the board.
The VBOA regulates Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) in Virginia through a program
of examination, licensure of individuals and CPA firms, consumer protection through
enforcement of VBOA statutes and regulations, continuing professional education
and peer review.
“I am honored to serve the Commonwealth in this professional capacity,” says Brat.
“My teaching experience at Randolph-Macon College in the areas of economics and
ethics, combined with my roles in other professional organizations, will be an asset
while serving in this important capacity. I have taught continuing education courses
on ethics and worked on policy with the accounting profession over the years. They
are true professionals and I look forward to our work on this board.”
Brat, who joined the faculty in 1996, is the chair of R-MC’s Department of Economics
and Business and director of the BB&T Ethics Program. He earned his B.A. from
Hope College, his Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary and his
Ph.D. from The American University
