This year, more than 90-percent of R-MC students (1183), participated in January
Term 2013. This unique month-long program allows students to choose whether to immerse
themselves in another culture and study abroad, experience working in their desired
career through an internship or delve into a specific area of interest by taking
an on- campus course or research assignment.
Nearly 100 of these students traveled to one of eight countries: Australia, United
Kingdom, Japan, Tanzania, Hungary, China, Guatemala, Germany, Austria and New Zealand.
This year, Randolph-Macon supplied video cameras to many of the classes so that
students and professors could chronicle their time abroad through video blogs.
In this video, students who studied in China share their experience as they traveled
to Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Nanjing and even climbed the Great Wall of China. The
students, led by Professor Jia Xin Wu, learned about China’s present and past, sacred
temples and even toured a tea plantation.
