Julian Rashkind and Alan Rashkind '69 |
11/29/12On November 26, 2012, Randolph-Macon College received a $250,000 bequest gift from the estate of Trustee Emeritus Julian Rashkind.
This gift will be added to the existing endowed fund known as the Rashkind Endowment or the Rashkind Faculty Grants. The Rashkind family established this endowment to assist faculty during sabbatical leaves or while pursuing advanced study.
“The Rashkind family has a longstanding history of supporting Randolph-Macon,” says R-MC President Robert R. Lindgren. “This generous gift is just one more example of their commitment to our outstanding faculty and the mission of this college.”
Rashkind, who died on April 26, 2012, was a loyal patron of the college for many years. He served as a distinguished member of the R-MC Board of Trustees from 1981 to 1993 and was made Trustee Emeritus in 1993. In 1990, he received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award; at the same time, his late wife Eleanor received the Mary Mildred Sullivan Award. In 1996, the college awarded Rashkind an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree, and in 2008, he was made an Honorary Alumnus of Randolph-Macon College by the Society of Alumni.
Rashkind’s son,
Alan Rashkind ’69, currently serves as chair of the R-MC Board of Trustees, and his son,
Michael Rashkind ’71, is a former member of the Board of Associates. Rashkind is also survived by two other alumni, his grandson,
Graham Rashkind ’96, a current member of the Board of Associates, and Graham’s wife,
Cameron Morgan Rashkind ’94.
