11/19/12 What do French crêpes, a German tea party, and Skype have in common? All were part of Randolph-Macon College’s International Education Week (IEW), which was held November 12-16, 2012. IEW is a cross-cultural event that is held at hundreds of colleges around the world.
R-MC students, faculty and staff had the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of IEW events, all coordinated through the
Office of International Education. A few highlights:
Monique’s Crêpes offered authentic French crêpes to hungry Francophones. Sweet
Fraises au Chocolate and savory
Jambon au Fromage were two of the many varieties of crêpes available via Monique’s food truck.
Bon appetit! At the
Passport Around the World event, held in the Butler Multimedia Learning Center, visitors took virtual tours of other countries and talked to international students currently enrolled at R-MC. In addition, President Robert R. Lindgren presented
Marylita Poma-Pacheco ’16 and
Olof Nordin ’16 each with a United World College (UWC) Scholars Program crystal globe. This program provides scholarships to students from around the world to attend American colleges and universities. Poma-Pacheco is originally from Peru and studied at the UWC of Southeast Asia in Singapore before coming to R-MC. Nordin, from Sweden, studied at Red Cross Nordic UWC in Norway before coming to R-MC.
At the
Deutsche Teegesellschaft (German Tea Party), a combination of German-themed Scrabble, hot tea, and home-baked treats made for a
sehr gut event.
R-MC students studying abroad came a little closer to Ashland via a
Skype Session in the
Butler Multimedia Learning Center.
Rachel Johnsen ’13, who is studying in France,
Anna DeLoache '13, who is studying in England, and
Emily Crawford '13, who is studying in Chile, chatted about their
study-abroad experiences with students, faculty and staff.
IEW also included international films, a Hunger Lunch sponsored by R-MC’s chapter of Nourish International, an art show, and much more.
