11/13/12 The Randolph-Macon College
Drama Department will present
The Physicists November 14-17, 2012 in Cobb Theatre, in the R-MC Center for the Performing Arts. All shows begin at 8:00 p.m.
As with other works by the provocative Swiss playwright Friedrich Durrenmatt, this play teeters between theatre of the absurd and grotesque satire, between drama and philosophical introspection about the nature of knowledge and the responsibility of scientists to protect us from the implications of what they discover in the course of their research.
The setting is a sanatorium somewhere in Europe, and the three chief residents of the asylum are literally mad scientists. The hospital is staffed by comely nurses who share the unfortunate fate of being murdered on a regular basis by the very scientists they care for.
The play is directed by
drama and
arts management major
Elizabeth Jean ’13 as her senior project in drama, and the set for the Drama Department’s first production completely in the round was designed by
Tonia Leigh Bartlett ’14, an
art history and
English major. The show is under the technical direction of Professor of Arts and Scenography and Production Gregg Hillmar.
To make reservations, call the Box Office at (804) 752-7316. Tickets are $5.00 each and free for R-MC faculty, staff and students.
