The Randolph-Macon College community mourns the loss of Robert “Bob” Lee Hopkins Jr., who died November 10, 2012. Hopkins served as registrar of the college from 1968-1995.
Hopkins was a graduate of Washington and Lee University and earned an MBA from Tulane University. Prior to his arrival at R-MC, he served in the U.S. Navy and held positions at Colonial Williamsburg and at Chatham Hall School.
“Bob was a tireless worker, friend of faculty and staff and fierce advocate for students,” says R-MC Provost William T. Franz.
A member of St. James The Less Episcopal Church in Ashland, Virginia, Hopkins was active in the parish as a vestry member, Junior and Senior Wardens and in Region XI and the Diocese of Virginia. A memorial service will be held at St. James The Less Episcopal Church at 2 p.m.
Hopkins is survived by his wife, Louise Gilliam Hopkins; their daughter, Louise Fontaine Hopkins and her fiancé, Steven L. Crain; and their son, Robert Lee Hopkins III.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 14 at 2:00 p.m. at St. James the Less Episcopal Church, 125 Beverly Road, Ashland, Virginia. Burial will be in Stonewall Jackson Cemetery in Lexington, Virginia, also on Wednesday.
