The Randolph-Macon College Dance Team competed at the U.S. Finals Dance Competition in Virginia Beach, Virginia on May 5-6, 2012. R-MC won 6th place and earns a national ranking among more than 1,700 teams across the United States. The rankings will be released on May 18. This was the first time that the Dance Team has competed in a U.S. Finals event.
Susan Cassidy, head coach of the Dance Team, is thrilled with the outcome.
“I am so proud of the team,” says Cassidy, who has served as R-MC’s coach for two years. “Several team members learned skills for this routine that they never dreamed they’d be performing, and they executed them well. We received compliments from other gyms and dance-performance companies, as well as praise from longtime industry professionals.”
Prior to Cassidy's appointment, the Dance Team was coached by Elsie Cimorelli (
Center for Career and Personal Development). The following students are members of the Dance Team: Kendyl Work ’12, Jennifer Watson ’14, Jasmine Harris ’12, Savannah Kaiser ’15, Mariam Ihsane ’13, and Katharine Winters ’15.
The R-MC Dance Team competed in a qualifying competition called the Capital City Extreme Championships. The team was judged on dance technique, routine choreography and originality as well as how well they performed their routine.
