4/27/12Julian Rashkind, Trustee Emeritus and beloved member of the Randolph-Macon community, passed away on April 26, 2012.
“Julian was a true champion of Randolph-Macon College,” said R-MC President Robert R. Lindgren. “In addition to his many contributions, the Rashkind Family Endowment that he and his late wife Eleanor began has supported faculty development activities over the years, resulting in outstanding research that has been performed under the auspices of these grants. His passing is a deep loss for our community and our hearts and prayers are with the Rashkind family.”
Rashkind, born in 1915, served as a distinguished member of the R-MC Board of Trustees from 1981 to 1993 and was made Trustee Emeritus in 1993. He leaves behind a loving family to include sons, Alan Rashkind ’69, current chair of the R-MC Board of Trustees, Michael ’71, and grandson, Graham ’96.
On September 9, 1990, Rashkind received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award and his wife Eleanor received the Mary Mildred Sullivan Award. These awards are given by select colleges and universities on behalf of the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation, “…in recognition of fine spiritual qualities applied to daily living. The object of the award is not so much to encourage one individual as it is to reach out to influence many.”
In 2008, Rashkind was made an Honorary Alumnus of Randolph-Macon College by the Society of Alumni.
