Randolph-Macon College will host Guitarist Giacomo Fiore on March 17, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. in St. Ann’s Performing Arts Building. Fiore’s performances range in style from contemporary and avant-garde music to the fingerstyle-influenced melodies of his Italian youth.
The concert is free and open to the public.At the age of 19, Fiore left Genova, Italy to pursue a degree in music education at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. He then furthered his studies at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, joining one of the world's most dynamic and competitive guitar programs under the tutelage of David Tanenbaum, and earned his master’s in performance in 2009.
Fiore has performed across the United States, Canada, Europe and Brazil. In February 2012 he made his orchestral debut with the University of California, Santa Cruz Symphony performing Villa-Lobos’s Concerto for Guitar. He has also refined his interpretations in master classes with artists such as Ben Verdery, Pavel Steidl, Paul Galbraith and Lorenzo Micheli.
In June 2011, Fiore released his third independent CD, “Colors: Modern Music for Guitar,” which includes works for classical and resophonic guitar by Britten, Harrison, Takemitsu and Tippett. His other CDs include "Tones from an Open Heart" (2005), his original compositions, and "Genteel" (2009), a selection of classical, popular and world-music pieces showcasing the various formative influences in the artist's career.
In addition to the concert, Fiore will conduct a Master Class on March 17 at 5:00 p.m. in St. Ann’s Performing Arts Building. This class is open to the public.For more information about the Master Class, contact Andrew McEvoy at
