The R-MC Board of Trustees approved the tenure and/or promotion of 10 faculty members at its spring meeting.
“These exceptional faculty members are truly deserving of this formal recognition of their talent, scholarship and dedication,” said President Robert R. Lindgren. “I join the Randolph-Macon College community in congratulating and thanking them for their outstanding contributions.”
The following faculty members were granted tenure and promotion to Associate Professor:
Mathias D. Bergmann (
history) joined the faculty in 2004. He earned his B.S. from Eastern Oregon University and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Washington State University.
E. Harold Breitenberg (
religious studies) joined the faculty in 2005. He earned his B.A. from the College of William and Mary, his M.M. from The Catholic University of America, his M.Div. from Union Theological Seminary in Virginia, and his Ph.D. from Union Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education.
Jennie E. Callas (
library) joined the faculty in 2005. She earned her B.A. from McDaniel College and her M.L.S. from the University of Maryland.
Rebecca R. Michelsen (
chemistry) joined the faculty in 2005. She earned her B.A. from Occidental College and her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.
Debra Rodman (
anthropology and
women’s studies) joined the faculty in 2004. She earned her B.A. and M.A. from the University of Miami and her Ph.D. from the University of Florida.
Christopher O. Ryder (
music) joined the faculty in 2005. He earned his B.A. from Mary Washington College, his M.A. from George Mason University and his D.M.A. from Shenandoah Conservatory of Shenandoah University.
Brian Sutton (
mathematics) joined the faculty in 2005. He earned his B.S. from Virginia Tech and his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Lynda W. Wright (
library) joined the faculty in 2005. She earned her M.A. from the University of Virginia and her M.S. from Columbia University.
The following faculty member was granted tenure:
Laurie A. Preston (
library) joined the faculty in 2005. She earned her B.A. from the State University of New York at Albany and her M.S. from Simmons College.
The following faculty member was promoted from Associate Professor to Full Professor:
James A. Foster (
biology) joined the faculty in 1998. He earned his B.S. from Lebanon Valley College and his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia.
