Paul T. Davies |
Randolph-Macon College President Robert R. Lindgren has announced that following a national search, Paul T. Davies has been selected as the college’s new Associate Vice President of Administration and Finance.
Davies, a CPA with over twenty-two years of business and finance experience in higher education, is currently Vice President for Finance and Administration at Sweet Briar College in Virginia, where he has served since 2004.
“Paul is an innovative, strategic thinker with excellent communication skills,” said Lindgren. “His enthusiasm and wealth of related experience, combined with his ability to build consensus with multiple constituencies, make him an excellent addition to our Randolph-Macon community. I expect he will be a fine successor to John Ahladas down the road and provide significant continuity to our important finance and administrative areas.”
Randolph-Macon’s Office of Administration and Finance oversees the college’s finances and maintains responsibility and custody of all college funds. It also manages operations of the business office, human resources, the R-MC bookstore, physical plant, information technology and food services. This office also has a major role in developing the annual operating budget of the college, coordinating the investment process for the college’s endowment, and assumes responsibility for a year-end balanced budget as well as the design and construction of major renovations and new facilities.
Davies said, “I am thrilled to be joining this outstanding liberal arts college and am impressed with the strength and vision of their leadership, faculty and staff. It is obvious that the college’s mission drives their operations, as is evidenced by their new strategic and campus master plans. I am honored to be coming on board at such an exciting time and look forward to the opportunity to help Randolph-Macon achieve its goals for the future.”
Prior to joining Sweet Briar College, Davies worked at Duke University for 17 years. While there, he served as the Director of Finance for Auxiliary Services and was responsible for an annual operating budget of $112 million and managed over 730 employees in areas that included information services, dining services, event management, Duke Stores, the DukeCard System, transportation, parking and Duke Marine Lab Auxiliaries. He also served as business manager for Duke’s department of medicine and as a senior internal auditor.
Davies, who earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1980, will ultimately transition into the role of R-MC’s current Vice President of Administration and Finance, John Ahladas, upon his retirement in the next year or so.
Ahladas has served in his current position at R-MC for nearly 14 years. He has been actively engaged in nearly every area of the college and was instrumental in the completion of numerous campus projects to include the construction of the Brock Sports and Recreation Center and the renovations of Pace-Armistead Hall, Old Chapel, Thomas Branch, Crenshaw Gym, Estes Dining Hall and Macon Coffee, Freshman Village residence halls, Blackwell Auditorium and the adjoining Cobb Theater. Prior to joining R-MC, Ahladas had a distinguished career at Dominion Power for 31 years. He served in several leadership positions and eventually rose through the management ranks to become senior vice president of corporate service groups during his last eight years with the organization. He and his wife, Miriam, a 1993 alumna of R-MC and artist , live in Ashland.
Davies and his wife, Karen, have three children, including two in high school and a junior at Tulane University. He will begin at Randolph-Macon in mid August 2010.
