John P. “Jack” Frazee Jr. ’66 Honorary Degree Recipient |
John P. “Jack” Frazee Jr. ’66 received the Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree during Randolph-Macon College’s Commencement on Saturday, May 29, 2010. Frazee has spent over 40 years in the telecommunications industry and is currently a private investor and a corporate director.
Frazee is the retired president/COO and director of Sprint Corporation and the retired chairman and CEO of Centel Corporation, which merged with Sprint in 1993. At the time of the merger, Centel was the fifth largest telephone, cellular and business communications equipment company. In 1997, Frazee became the chairman and CEO of Pagenet, a wireless messaging company; he remained in that position until 2000 when the company merged with Arch Telecommunications Corp.
Presently, Frazee is a director of Verde Realty, LLC, Cabot Microelectronics Corp. (NASDAQ-symbol CCMP), Education Corporation of America, C-SPAN, and Children’s Choice Learning Centers, LLC. He served as chairman of the Board of C-SPAN from 1984 – 1986. He is a former director of Dean Foods Company, Nalco Chemical Company, Midway Airlines, Harris Bancorp, Pagenet, Homestead Village, Inc., Security Capital Group, and he was a public director of the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE). Since 2007, Frazee has served as a senior advisor to the investment banking firm of Greenhill & Company.
Frazee graduated from Randolph-Macon College in 1966 with a degree in political science. He served as a member of the R-MC Board of Trustees from 1987 – 1992 and is a lifetime member of the R-MC Presidents Society. He is a past chairman of the Foundation for Independent Higher Education in Washington, D.C.
Civic involvement is very important to Frazee. He has served as general chairman of the United Way Crusade of Mercy for the City of Chicago, chairman of the Economic Development Commission of the City of Chicago, a member of the Civic Committee of Chicago, a director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and a life trustee of Rush Hospital and Medical School in Chicago.
Frazee and his wife Cassie live in Tallahassee, Florida. They have five children and five grandchildren.
