Graduating seniors will don their caps and gowns for the first time this year and march into Blackwell Auditorium, R-MC’s Center for the Performing Arts, as the college holds its annual Honors Convocation Ceremony. The event will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 14, 2010.
More than 100 awards and scholarships will be announced, along with recognition of students inducted into honor societies. Several faculty members will also be honored for their dedication to education and to the students at R-MC. The Thomas Branch Award for Excellence in Teaching Award, The United Methodist Church Exemplary Teaching Award and The Samuel Nelson Gray Distinguished Professor Award will be presented at Honors Convocation.
The Second Annual Marilyn J. Gibbs Dedicated Service Award will also be presented. The award was created by a generous gift from former Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Dr. Steven Nape and his wife Diane. This award is given annually to a member of the Randolph-Macon College staff for outstanding service to and support of the mission of the college. The award is named in honor of Dr. Marilyn J. Gibbs, whose 18 years of dedicated service to the college as assistant professor of sociology and then registrar exemplified the highest ideals embodied in the college’s mission.
A reception outside of Blackwell Auditorium will follow Honors Convocation.
