R-MC Students Present at Spring Honors Conference

Three Randolph-Macon College students attended the Virginias Collegiate Honors Council (VCHC) spring conference April 16-17, 2010. The event, which was held at Virginia Wesleyan College (VWC), brought together high-achieving honors students from Virginia and West Virginia to present their research, compete for scholarships and share information and ideas.

Katie Daisey ’12, Vi Mai ’12 and Duy Nguyen ’12 attended the conference. Nguyen presented an argument for healthcare reducing long-term costs. All three students are members of the Honors Program at R-MC and traveled to the conference with Jack Trammell, director of the program. Trammell was elected to office as a 4-year private school representative and is currently working with students in the Honors Program at R-MC with a special emphasis on incoming freshmen, some of whom will attend the VCHC conference next year.

The VCHC is an interdisciplinary professional organization, and the conference provided a forum for honors students—first-year to seniors—to present their work publicly and to network with other honors students. Participants presented individual papers, group presentations, poster sessions, or art/original work. The theme for this year’s conference was “VCHC: A Sea of Possibilities.”
