The Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges (VFIC) and the Verizon Foundation announced on March 30, 2010 the winners of “Teaching with Today’s Technology” program grants. Five institutions, including Randolph-Macon College, have received $20,000 each to enhance their teacher education departments in the area of technology and the role it can play in the K-12 classroom experience.
“This generous grant will support and enhance our fine education program,” said R-MC President Robert R. Lindgren. “By giving our education students the latest technological tools, we provide them with an invaluable asset in their roles as future educators.”
Randolph-Macon College will use the grant to provide developmental, sequential and integrated technology instruction for pre-service teachers to use in teaching K-12 students in practicum placements.
Brenda Davis, chair of R-MC’s education department, explains: “The Verizon grant allows the education department to extend its integration of technology into core courses for all pre-service teachers. The technology integration is directly related to the pre-service teachers’ field work in K-12 classrooms. The grant also helps us promote 21st century goals of learning to learn and creative and critical thinking through integration of technology.”
