The Rev. Elmer A. Thompson, D.D. ’42 received the Yellow Jacket Salute award for his continuing support of Randolph-Macon College and its mission on February 25, 2010. The award was presented during the Macon Connections Professional Networking event at The Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, Virginia. Whitney Forstner '98, chair of R-MC's Society of Alumni, presented Rev. Thompson with his award.
The Society of Alumni created the Yellow Jacket Salute award to honor those alumni who have provided outstanding service in the furtherance of the mission of Randolph-Macon College.
Rev. Thompson received his B.A. from Randolph-Macon College in 1942 and his M.Div. from Boston University in 1948. In 1972 he received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from R-MC. While a student at Randolph-Macon College, Rev. Thompson was a member of Clericus, the campus organization for pre-ministerial students, and the Washington Literary Society.
Rev. Thompson is a retired ordained Methodist minister, having served as a pastor to several local churches. In addition, he served as dean of Ferrum Junior College (1954-58), staff member of the Methodist General Board of Education (1958-1968) and staff member of the Virginia United Methodist Conference Council on Ministries.
Rev. Thompson has generously supported the college through the Heritage Society and the President’s Society. He lives in Richmond, Virginia.
