Randolph-Macon College mourns the loss of Oriana Robertson Hargrove, who passed away on January 18, 2010. She was the wife of former delegate, Frank D. Hargrove Sr., who represented the 55th district in Hanover County, Virginia for 28 years. A service was held on January 21 at The Fork Church in Doswell, Virginia to celebrate her life.
“Oriana was a wonderful ambassador for Randolph-Macon and a beloved member of our college community,” said R-MC President Robert R. Lindgren. “We will remember her for her strength of character, her commitment to bettering our community and her Southern grace and charm. Our hearts and prayers are with her husband Frank and her family.”
Mrs. Hargrove is a former member of the Randolph-Macon Board of Associates and the college’s Presidents Society. She was an active civic leader in Hanover for many years, an advocate for mental health services and sat on numerous boards to include the Hanover Arts and Activities Center, the American Cancer Society and the Friends of Hanover.
Frank Hargrove Sr., who has been a member of the Virginia House of Delegates since 1982, is a Trustee Emeritus at Randolph-Macon College. He is also a member of R-MC’s Presidents Society.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hargrove is survived by her children, Dale Alderman and her husband, John "Rick" Alderman, Frank Hargrove Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth Hargrove, Stewart Hargrove and his wife, Lynn Hargrove, and Wellesley Hargrove and his wife, Kimberly Hargrove; and 10 grandchildren.
