Randolph-Macon College Biology Professor Sarah K. Huber, Ph.D., is the senior author of an article published in PLoS ONE, an interactive open-access journal for the communication of peer-reviewed scientific and medical research.

The article, titled Ecoimmunity in Darwin’s Finches: Invasive Parasites Trigger Acquired Immunity in the Medium Ground Finch (Geospiza fortis), explores the impacts of introduced species on Darwin’s finches in the Galápagos Islands. The research was conducted as part of Huber’s post-doctorate in the lab of Dale H. Clayton, Ph.D., a biology professor at the University of Utah. This January, Huber will take a group of fourteen R-MC undergraduates to the Galápagos Islands to study the evolution and conservation of organisms in this archipelago.

Huber joined the faculty at Randolph-Macon College in 2008. She earned her B.S. at Duke University and her Ph.D. at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
