Now, staying connected with Randolph-Macon College is easier than ever. Anyone can follow R-MC on Twitter, become a fan on Facebook or build a professional network on LinkedIn. Followers of social networking sites can also watch videos of events and hear what alumni, students and faculty have to say about R-MC on the college's YouTube site. Social networks provide the ability to stay in touch with R-MC friends and classmates and follow R-MC’s Yellow Jackets throughout the academic year.
"Social networking is an increasingly important communication tool in today’s society," said Director of Marketing and Communications, Anne Marie Lauranzon. “Web sites such as Facebook and Twitter offer us the ability to instantly send out news throughout the day to help us better reach and engage anyone interested in finding out more about R-MC. It’s an excellent marketing and communications tool and we’re thrilled that social networking has become so popular across campus."
The R-MC admissions department has also jumped on board and their counselors are using Facebook and Twitter to connect with prospective students and their families. As a result, R-MC can quickly disseminate information to anyone interested in learning more about the admissions process, financial aid, scheduling a campus tour or finding out when a R-MC counselor will visit their hometown. They can also request that a R-MC admissions counselor visit their high school or community.
"The biggest impact we have seen with social networking is our increased connection with accepted students," said Director of Admissions and Enrollment Research Anthony Ambrogi. "We have created Facebook groups that have become great venues for those students to talk to each other and feel engaged with the college. Our orientation leaders also participate in these informal social networks to address issues that students may not feel comfortable asking in person."
The athletics department also has a large following on its own Facebook and Twitter fan pages. The latest Yellow Jacket news, projections, stats, schedules and scores are frequently updated for those who follow R-MC athletics.
Randolph-Macon has recently launched links to Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube on its Web site homepage at
www.rmc.edu to make signing up for these networks easier than ever.
