Randolph-Macon College received more than $7.7 million in private support from alumni, parents and friends of the College during the 2008-09 academic year, a jump of more than $1.2 million compared to the previous year.
“Given the current economic climate, this increase in giving is remarkable,” said Randolph-Macon College President Robert R. Lindgren.
More importantly, 33% of R-MC alumni chose to make a contribution to the College, which exceeds last year’s participation rate of 30%. This is the highest alumni giving participation rate in nearly a decade at Randolph-Macon.
President Lindgren notes, “This sort of increase in alumni giving is almost unheard of in higher education. Randolph-Macon is very lucky to have such dedicated and committed alumni who have stepped up in a big way this past year despite a year of financial uncertainty.”
Donations to Randolph-Macon College were designated to many areas of campus including endowed professorships, renovations to facilities on campus, endowed scholarships, construction funds for new athletic facilities and the College’s Annual Fund. The Annual Fund totaled $1,142,176, which is the largest Annual Fund total in Randolph-Macon’s history. Support for the Annual Fund during the 2008-09 fiscal year was especially important because all donations to the Annual Fund were used for financial aid support for deserving R-MC students.
