Thomas Porter, Ph.D. |
Randolph-Macon College History Professor Thomas Porter, Ph.D., will lead a discussion on China on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at the Richard S. Gillis Jr./Ashland Branch Library.
The 2008 Olympics, the global recession and the anniversary of the demonstrations at Tiananmen Square keep China in U.S. news, but China is not well understood by many Americans and its name may stir in some a subtle foreboding and sense of mystery. Porter will lend his unique perspective on China’s contemporary history during the discussion.
Refreshments will be served at the presentation, which is free and open to the public.
For more information, call the library at (804) 365-6211. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Ashland Library.
Porter, who joined the faculty at Randolph-Macon College in 1974, earned his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. at Northern Illinois University.
