“I have been able to travel abroad to work on mission projects and immerse myself in various leadership roles and activities on the R-MC campus,” says
Anne West ’09. “My experience here has guided me to become the person I am today.”
West is a multi-faceted talent whose enthusiasm about her Randolph-Macon College experience is undeniable. “I cannot imagine myself happier or more confident than I am as I graduate this May,” says West, who will graduate Cum Laude with majors in art history and religious studies and a minor in classical studies.

West, a Bailey Scholar, was active in the Honors Program, the Delta Zeta sorority and the Panhellenic Council during her career at R-MC. “The Bailey Scholar program initially brought me to R-MC and from there I really made myself at home!” says West. “It has been a great experience for me, beyond words, and I have learned leadership skills and experienced so much growth and so many academic challenges at R-MC.”
The A. Purnell Bailey Pre-Professional Internship provides qualified students with a program that nurtures their call to ministry. Bailey scholars must complete an academic internship and a pre-professional internship. “The Bailey Scholarship has made a world of difference to me,” says West. “If it were not for the Bailey Scholarship, I could not have afforded to come to R-MC. Because of the scholarship, not only have I received a top-notch education, but have really blossomed in terms of confidence and a sense of vocation.”
The Midlothian, Virginia native has received numerous accolades while a student at R-MC. She won the Greek Emerging Leader award, the Greek Woman of the Year award and an art history award. In addition, West has made the Dean’s List several times, and she was awarded the Robert Epes Jones Prize in Classical Studies during Honors Convocation on May 15. An anonymous donor established this award in 1980 in honor of Robert Epes Jones, an alumnus of the college and professor emeritus of classics. The award is given to a graduating major for excellence in classical studies.
West was also awarded the Stevenson Holy Land Travel and Study Award by the religious studies department. The award was established by R-MC alumnus The Rev. A. L. Stevenson, in memory of his wife, and is awarded to a pre-ministerial student or to a religious studies major. The recipient is given the opportunity to study and travel in Israel.
“After graduation, I plan to attend Princeton Theological Seminary,” says West. “I feel so honored to have come this far and when I look back at my time at R-MC I just cannot believe all that I have done. It is such a blessing.”
