Soso Mamukelashvili: "There is a real connection here between the students and the faculty." |

Soso and R-MC President Robert R. Lindgren attended the annual conference of Rotary District 7570 in March. |
Although Ioseb “Soso” Mamukelashvili hails from Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia and may be thousands of miles from home, he feels welcomed at Randolph-Macon every day. “There is a real connection here between the students and the faculty—and between the students and alumni,” says Soso. “Through the Society for Advancement of Management, German Club and other on-campus activities, I have established a great group of friends.”
During his senior year of high school, Soso came to Virginia as a Rotary exchange student. “I visited Randolph-Macon and was impressed by the small class size and ability to communicate a lot with professors,” says Soso. “They are always available for you. They even give you their home telephone numbers.”

In 2008 Soso researched the topic Economic Growth and Human Capital in Eastern Europe: The Transition in Georgia for his SURF (Schapiro Undergraduate Research Fellowship) project. Soso sent blog entries to the college during his studies, giving readers insight into the research process and his findings.
Soso has also benefited from R-MC alumni networking sessions. “Alumni have come back and shared their experiences in the job market,” says Soso. “So I got to talk with people in my field of accounting and economics who offered a helpful look at career paths from the perspective of having been a Randolph-Macon student.”
Soso attends R-MC on a Rotary scholarship and attended the annual conference of Rotary District 7570, which was held in March at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia. During the conference, Randolph-Macon President Robert R. Lindgren was the keynote speaker and spoke to the audience of 800 Rotarians about the benefits of international study to students in today’s world and acknowledged Soso’s success at the college.
