Matthew McMillen enjoys a dance during the fundraiser in 2007 |
A day full of dancing, music, games, food and entertainment made up this year’s
Macon Miracles dance marathon at Randolph-Macon College. The fundraiser, which collected close to $20,000, took place on Saturday, March 14, 2009 in the Brock Sports and Recreation Center from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. There were plenty of activities for children and families, including Radio Disney! and inflatable jumpers.
Macon Miracles is a student run, non-stop event with the goal of raising money to provide research, treatment, equipment and education for children who suffer from terminal illness, serious disease, birth defects and severe trauma. Money raised at Randolph-Macon will go towards the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals of the Richmond area, including VCU’s Children’s Medical Center and The Children’s Hospital of Richmond.
Macon Miracles, formerly known as Dance Marathon, began at Randolph-Macon College in 2001 and has raised a total of more than $150,000. This year,
Macon Miracles celebrated 7-year-old Matthew McMillen, who directly benefits from the dance marathon and is an annual participant in the event. The event also included testimonials, a visit by Miss USA contestants and a Wii tournament.
