Dr. Yvonne Brandon

Randolph-Macon College graduate Dr. Yvonne Brandon ’76 was officially named Superintendent of Richmond Public Schools in Richmond, Virginia on Tuesday, January 27, 2009. She has served as interim superintendent since August 2008.
Dr. Brandon earned a degree in biology from R-MC in 1976. She eventually earned a master’s and doctoral degree in education. Her distinguished career in Richmond Public schools began as a middle school math teacher. She also taught high school science, served as a guidance counselor, and led several schools as principal. In 1999, Brandon was appointed her first administrative position as director of instruction for Richmond Public Schools, followed by deputy superintendent in 2002.
Richmond Public Schools serves more than 24-thousand students in 29 elementary schools, nine middle schools and eight high schools.
Randolph-Macon College recently published a profile about Dr. Yvonne Brandon ’76 in the Fall/Winter edition of the R-MC Alumni magazine. In this article, Dr. Brandon credits R-MC for teaching her critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
