An Evening with Newt Gingrich March 5, 2009 Blackwell Auditorium, 7:30 p.m. |
On March 5, 2009, Randolph-Macon College will host “An Evening with Newt Gingrich” at 7:30 p.m. in Blackwell Auditorium, in the R-MC Center for Performing Arts, as part of the Arthur McKinley Reynolds Lecture Series.
This event is sold out.
In his speech, "The Political Climate in Today's Changing World," Mr. Gingrich will discuss the future of the Republican Party and give insight into how President Barack Obama can lead lasting change during his administration.
Gingrich spent 20 years in Congress and was elected to become Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1995 to 1999. He is best known for helping to create the 1994 “Contract with America” that helped the Republican Party regain control of the House of Representatives for the first time in 40 years. An avid history buff, Gingrich has authored several fiction and non-fiction books that have been placed on the best seller list. His latest book, Real Change: From the World That Fails to the World That Works (Regnery Publishing, January 2008), calls on politicians to drop their own agendas and respond to the will of the people to bring about real change. In addition to being an author, he founded The Gingrich Group, a consulting firm focused on transformational change, and the Center for Health Transformation, which is dedicated to the creation of a 21st century intelligent health system with the purpose of saving lives and money.
Gingrich earned a Bachelor’s degree in history from Emory University and his Master’s and Ph.D. in modern European history from Tulane University. He taught history and environmental studies at West Georgia College for eight years before being elected to Congress.
“An Evening with Newt Gingrich” is the first event sponsored by R-MC’s new Arthur McKinley Reynolds Lecture Series. Reynolds is a retired ophthalmologist who earned a Bachelor’s degree in physics from R-MC in 1947 and a degree in Medicine from VCU School of Medicine. He is a member of the R-MC Presidents Society and Heritage Society and was previously a member the Society of Alumni Board.
