Randolph-Macon juniors and seniors now have the opportunity to learn from R-MC alumni working in top-level executive positions throughout Virginia. ACCESS CEO is a unique team-based mentoring program that provides an opportunity for ambitious students to come together and learn from seasoned top local executives—some of whom are Randolph-Macon alumni— and from one another.
ACCESS CEO provides a venue for students to meet and learn from local executives at the president and vice-president level. Students accepted into the eight-month program research featured companies, attend monthly business meetings and share their findings at planning meetings held on campus. Students have the opportunity to build connections within the community; gain a better understanding of business and career growth options; and develop and achieve personal and professional goals.
The following R-MC alumni will be working with ACCESS CEO students in the coming months:
Robert Hicks Jr. ’60 is the vice-president of development and community relations for Goodwill of Central Virginia. Hicks is slated to meet with students in December 2008.
Bob Kristofak ’79 is the senior vice-president and managing director of the employee benefits division of HRH. Kristofak will meet with students in January 2009.
Dr. Yvonne Brandon ’76 is the interim superintendent for Richmond City Public Schools. Dr. Brandon will meet with students in February 2009.
Michael Acutt ’10 appreciates the value of this ground-breaking program. “Access CEO has given me the opportunity to meet and learn from some of Richmond's corporate leaders, as well as gain valuable life experiences that will give me an edge when I enter the work world,” says Acutt.
Other companies participating in ACCESS CEO include Venturi Staffing Partners, Owens & Minor, Inc. and HRH Insurance.
ACCESS CEO is spearheaded by Cathy Rollman, associate director of R-MC’s Career Services, and Robert Patterson, director of corporate and foundation relations. Rollman is enthusiastic about ACCESS CEO and the possibilities it presents to students. “Access CEO allows students to meet with top executives, to learn from these mentors and to envision their own paths to success,” she says. “Students involved in the program are being afforded wonderful opportunities to learn and make connections.”
