On Friday, October 24, 2008 friends, classmates, and family members of Janet Harvey Trivette ‘78 visited campus during Homecoming Weekend to dedicate Randolph-Macon’s new alumni walkway in honor of her memory. The brick walkway winds throughout historic campus and will contain the names of every Randolph-Macon graduate, eventually dating all the way back to classes in the early 1900s.
The dedication ceremony began with remarks by President Robert Lindgren. “This walkway will serve as a landmark in recognition of those that have come before us and as a path for each graduating class to follow," said Lindgren. "This is a way of connecting the past with the future and celebrating the idea of our everlasting and ever-growing community.”
Others included in the dedication ceremony were Anne Nelson Morck, friend of Janet Trivette's and Randolph-Macon Trustee, and Annie Homans Johnson ’78 who spoke on behalf of Janet’s classmates, many of whom were on campus celebrating their 30th college reunion.
This major undertaking was made possible by the support of hundreds of friends and family of Janet Trivette who lost her courageous fight against breast cancer in November 2007. Dr. George Trivette ’76 publicly acknowledged each donor during the ceremony. “Janet would have been very touched to see so many of her friends and family with us today. I would like to extend my own deepest appreciation to everyone who has donated to this project and especially our family members who have traveled from Colorado and Boston to be with us today.”
The dedication ceremony concluded with a reception alongside the first phase of the walkway in front of Washington-Franklin Hall that contains the names of graduates from the classes of 1976 through 1985.
