Randolph-Macon College President Robert Lindgren is proud to announce that overwhelming interest in R-MC produced the
largest applicant pool in the College’s history. This resulted in the highest overall enrollment ever, with 1200 students kicking off the 2008 academic year! Ethnic diversity with the freshman class is also a record-breaker with 24
percent of the incoming class representing an ethnic minority group.
“This is terrific news for us and we couldn’t be more pleased in this unprecedented interest to attend Randolph-Macon College,” said President Lindgren. “We believe these numbers directly reflect our national reputation for providing an exceptional liberal arts education. No doubt, this incredible success is due in large part to our dedicated faculty and challenging academic program. And I am delighted that our efforts to increase ethnic diversity have been so effective; we want to make this outstanding education accessible to everyone."
In addition to ethnic diversity, this year’s incoming freshmen class also broke enrollment records. The
2008 applicant pool is the largest in the college's history with over 3,600 students applying. This is the third consecutive year that R-MC has received a record number of applications which have resulted in the past three largest entering freshmen classes in R-MC’s history. Overall, the entering class represents Virginia, 22 other states and six foreign countries.
“I am very pleased that we have been able to have significant increases in applications, enrollment, and in diversity while maintaining high academic quality of incoming students," said R-MC Dean of Admissions, Dr. Steven Nape. “None of this would be possible without having an outstanding and attractive academic institution to show students and their families. The education and learning environment at Randolph-Macon are second to none, and families see that when they visit our campus.”
Randolph-Macon is offering an excellent series of First Year Experience programs for the upcoming academic year, 21 Study/Travel Courses in January Term 2009, national and international internships and a breadth of research projects through its Schapiro Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program.
"This is a terrific way to begin the new academic year," said Lindgren, "and we warmly welcome each student into the Randolph-Macon family.”
