Randolph-Macon College’s eighth-annual Washington-Franklin Debates will be held
on Tuesday, April 22 at 4:45 p.m., 5:45 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. To celebrate Earth Day,
the topic is "Be It Resolved That the U.S. federal government should act on several
fronts to move the nation significantly toward the goal of energy self-sufficiency."
This exciting event, in which the audience is encouraged to speak up, combines the
substance of public policy debate with the oratorical flair of parliamentary-style
debate. Participating schools are Randolph-Macon College, University of Richmond,
Liberty University, and University of Pittsburgh. R-MC’s Franklin Debating Society
is sponsoring the event. The 4:45 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. debates will be held in the
Washington and Franklin rooms, and the 8:15 p.m. event will take place in the Washington
Room. All rooms are located in R-MC’s Washington-Franklin Hall. The event is free
and open to the public.
