Randolph-MaconCollege’s Society of Alumni honored Bruce J. Adkins ’70 with the Yellow JacketSalute award during a reception in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The reception was held on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at the home of Michael Colangelo ’93, who graciously welcomed everyone in attendance. Retired history professor Dr. George Oliver ’49 and President Robert Lindgren presented the award.
Adkins currently serves on the R-MC Board of Associates. He was elected to the board in 1988 and served as chair from 1996 to 1997. In his capacity as chair, he served as ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees for two years.
R-MC has benefited from Adkins’ fundraising efforts. In the mid-1980s, he was chair of the Fredericksburg area division of the college’s capital campaign. He was also a member of the Presidents Society for many years and served as chair from 1987 to 1989. In addition, Adkins has been involved in the planning of reunions for the Class of 1970 and has served as a class agent. His support for the college is infectious and his energetic approach to volunteering is unflagging.
Adkins earned his Bachelor’s degree in political science from Randolph-Macon College in 1970. He joined the United States Marine Corps and, while serving, earned a Master’s degree in administration from George Washington University. He retired from the Marine Corps in 1977 with the rank of captain. Adkins is currently the director of sales for White River Hardwoods-Woodworks, Inc.
