Former R-MC Standout Megan Silva Named to D3hoops.com All-Decade Team
ASHLAND, VA – Former Randolph-Macon College standout Megan Silva has been named First-Team All Decade by D3hoops.com. The site announced the teams today as part of the 10th anniversary of its launch date.
The most decorated athlete in Randolph-Macon College history, Silva was named the 2005-06 Honda Division III Female Athlete of Year. That same season, Silva became the first student-athlete to win the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Year award three times after leading the league and the nation in scoring with 23.0 points per game.
For her efforts, Silva was named the 2006 National Player-of-the-Year by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), D3Hoops.com and DIII News. Silva, who was a member of R-MC’s Phi Beta Kappa chapter, graduated with a degree in business/economics in May of 2006. She also was the 2006 female winner of the Jostens Trophy, which recognizes excellence in Division III basketball, academics and community service.
Silva finished her college career with 2,371 career points, 700 assists and 446 steals, currently higher than any other male or female player in ODAC history. Her 2,371 career points ranks sixth all-time in Division III history. She was also a two-time consensus First All-American selection.
“Having Megan Silva selected to the D3hoops.com All-Decade Team is a tremendous honor for her and Randolph-Macon College,” said R-MC Head Coach Carroll LaHaye. “Anyone who saw Megan play knows why she was selected to this team. To be chosen from among all the DIII athletes that have played this game so well for their institutions speaks volumes as to the quality of her play and what she accomplished in her career at Randolph-Macon College. This is an honor that brings us great pride and we know, in Megan’s humble way, she will give all the credit to the teammates that surrounded her through her career as she accepts this most recent and lofty honor.”
The All-Decade team is comprised of D3hoops.com All-American teams from 1997-98 to 2006-07. For more information and complete listing of the team, visit www.d3hoops.com.
