Studio Art
Vision, discipline, ingenuity, patience, creativity, mastery—the work of the artist demands a rich and varied range of skills valuable not only in the studio but also in the complex, changing world of the 21st century.
A major with perspective: The studio arts curriculum begins with a focus on the foundations of studio practice, then incorporates instruction in a range of media and disciplines including painting, printmaking, and drawing. As the focus of your college studies or as a complementary major or minor, studio arts provides a thorough introduction to the work of the studio artist.
Live art: The Flippo Gallery on the R-MC campus is dedicated to the exhibition of contemporary works of art by professional artists. The gallery is located in Pace-Armistead Hall, which is on the National Register of Historic Landmarks.
Beyond R-MC: Graduates of R-MC's studio arts program include working artists as well as alumni pursuing careers in fields including education, architecture, non-profit, and graphic design.
