Black studies explores African history and culture in the world
Black studies
Black studies introduces students to the complex history and broad cultural reach of the diverse African peoples and their descendants in the world.
Interdisciplinary study: The Black studies minor draws upon an interdisciplinary core of courses in art, history, literature, music, religion, psychology and sociology to explore the story of the interaction between those of African descent and the cultures in particular of the Americas and the Caribbean.
Travel: The January (J-term) travel-study trip to Ghana offers a cross-disciplinary exploration that includes the history, culture, geography and cuisine of this west African nation.
Beyond the classroom: Students interested in Black history, culture and heritage will find a range of campus organizations, activities and events include the Ujima Gospel Choir, Brothers for Change, the Black Cultural Society, and the annual campus-wide Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration.
