Arts Management
From opera houses to art galleries, the world's arts institutions and organizations depend upon the skills and talents of those behind the scenes. Within the Arts Management program at R-MC, students engage with a comprehensive curriculum bringing together coursework in business, management, and the arts.
Major options: In addition to providing a strong foundation in business and management, the Arts Management curriculum lets you choose your focus in a particular area of the arts--studio art, music or drama.
Hands-on experience: In fulfilling one of the requirements for this major, students in Arts Management participate in the RM-C's academic internship programand step behind the scenes in arts organizations. Some recent internship placements have included the Children's Museum of Richmond, the Guggenheim Museum, the Richmond Symphony, Barksdale Theatre/Theatre IV, and the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen.
Beyond R-MC: Recent graduates of R-MC's Arts Management program have pursued careers in fields including museum event-planning and membership relations, advertising, development, public relations, health care, finance and investing.

Arts Management major Kate Stottlemyer '99 puts her creative side and business expertise together as vice president for operations of the upscale home furnishings store Tweed. Currently serving as well as vice president for R-MC's Society of Alumni board, Kate says, “Randolph-Macon helped me to discover and become the person I am today. My experiences gave me the confidence to take risks, and to strive for success while being able to handle failure along the way.” |
