Ashland will usher in the holiday season with its 41st Annual Old Time Holiday
Parade on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010. The parade begins at 2:30 p.m. on
the corner of Thompson and Snead Streets, proceeds down Henry Street right through
the Randolph-Macon College campus.
More than 100 units, including Santa, are scheduled to participate in this annual
event. Local World War II veterans will be the honored Grand Marshals and will ride
in antique military vehicles furnished by the Virginia Military Vehicle association.
Parade units include the Patrick Henry High School marching band, ACCA Shriners
marching units, numerous horse and K-9 units, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, the YMCA
Indian Guides/Princesses, clowns and the R-MC Cheerleaders and Dance Team. In addition,
antique automobiles, farm tractors and fire trucks will be on hand to round out
the festivities. The event ends with the arrival of Santa Claus, who will ride high
atop an antique fire truck.
The Ashland Kiwanis Club will recognize Hanover County students who have had perfect
attendance at Henry Clay, John Gandy, Elmont and Kersey Creek elementary schools.
The Kiwanis Club has sponsored the Perfect Attendance Challenge to students for
many years, and it awards bicycles and gift certificates to the winners.
