Randolph-Macon College celebrated International Education Week (IEW) from November
16 – 20, 2009. The annual event included a week full of programs designed to help
the R-MC community explore their cross-cultural competency as global citizens. This
year’s theme was “Think Globally, Act Locally: Foreign Policy, Food & Folklore.”
IEW is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department
of Education to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide.
It is celebrated in more than 100 countries.
Events included a moderated panel discussion, several lectures, an open house and
R-MC’s Office of International Education (OIE) staff works throughout the year to
make R-MC’s international students feel at home. The OIE hosted an open house to
welcome international students on Thursday, August 27, 2009 in the atrium of Thomas
Branch. This year, 11 new international students, from Taiwan, Germany, Ireland,
Vietnam and El Salvador, now call R-MC home.
