Randolph-Macon College will expand its recruiting in the northeast section of the
United States thanks to a generous gift from the Arthur D. Dana Foundation. The
$250,000 gift was made in honor of Lee and Alice Dana Spencer who assisted in developing
this proposal and encouraged the foundation’s support.
“The Spencers are true friends of Randolph-Macon College,” said President Robert
Lindgren. “Their extraordinary vision for the school and their efforts in securing
this valuable gift will help the college as it continues to attract the most talented
students in the country. We are grateful for their personal dedication and the many
ways they contribute to the success of this outstanding college.”
R-MC will use the funds to hire an admissions counselor who will be based in the
northeast area of the country. The counselor will spearhead recruiting efforts and
will also serve alumni in the area by keeping them connected with key programs and
events and engaged with the college.
“This is a wonderful recruiting opportunity that will allow Randolph-Macon College
to become a more geographically diverse community,” said Dr. Steven Nape, R-MC’s
Dean of Admissions. “The northeast is an area where we have sought to personalize
our recruiting program. This generous gift will allow us to accomplish that goal.”
Lee Spencer has been on R-MC Board of Trustees since 1998 and serves as a current
member. The Spencers are also members of the college’s Presidents Society and have
volunteered to help with annual fund campaigns and recruiting efforts. Spencer is
the president of West Hill Properties in New York City. He joined the company after
retiring as executive vice-president and general counsel for Prudential Securities
Group, Inc. in 2000.
Randolph-Macon College plans to hire an admissions counselor to fill this position
by the fall of 2008.
