Michael Breed ’85 is the recipient of the Society of Alumni’s Distinguished Alumnus Award for his outstanding support of Randolph-Macon College. The award was presented by Robert Lambeth ’71 on November 11, 2011 during the “Macon Connections” event at the Jefferson Hotel.
The Society of Alumni created the Distinguished Alumnus Award to honor those alumni who have achieved wide recognition through contributions made to society through their chosen professions.
Breed was a four-year letter winner on the Randolph-Macon golf team. He was the number one player for the Yellow Jackets for three years and was team captain as a senior, winning six tournaments during his R-MC career. His post-graduate achievements are just as impressive.
Breed played a number of events on the Ben Hogan Tour (now Nationwide Tour) in 1991, and in 1994 he played in the Greater Hartford Open on the PGA Tour.
Breed has twice been named the New York Metropolitan PGA Teacher of the Year and was recognized by the New York Post as one of the top five instructors in the metropolitan area. In addition, he has been repeatedly recognized by Golf Magazine and Golf Digest as one of America’s top 100 golf teachers. In 2004 the College was pleased to induct him into the R-MC Hall of Fame.
Breed and his wife Kerri live in Scarsdale, New York. Since 2001 he has been the head golf pro at the Sunningdale Country Club in Scarsdale, where he teaches, runs tournaments and mentors assistants. He also hosts “The Golf Fix Show,” which is broadcast live on The Golf Channel.
Randolph-Macon is grateful to Breed not only for his financial support but also for serving as an excellent ambassador for the College. We are especially thankful for his support of the Randolph-Macon golf team, for which he has served as assistant coach, and by recruiting and providing instruction to numerous student-athletes.
