Proposers must include indirect costs in proposal submissions unless prohibited
by the funding agency. The College has negotiated an indirect cost rate with the
Federal Government of:
44% of MTDC for on-campus work
28% of MTDC for off-campus work
Modified Total Direct Costs (MTDC) are total direct costs excluding capital expenditures
(buildings, individual items of equipment; alterations and renovations) and subawards.
On-campus work vs. off-campus work: For all activities performed in facilities not
owned by the College and to which rent is directly allocated to the project(s),
the off-site rate will apply. Grants or contracts will not be subject to more than
one indirect cost rate. If more than 50% of a project is performed offsite, the
off-site rate will apply to the entire project.
Equipment means an article of nonexpendable tangible personal property having a
useful life of more than one year and an acquisition cost of $5,000 or more per
unit. Articles of equipment are property of the College.
The College uses the following fringe benefit rates:
Faculty stipend pay or summer work 16%
Faculty or staff full-time work 25%
Where applicable, grant proposals should include a fee of $85 per week for summer
student housing. The value of housing provided to a student is taxable income, subject
to fringe, unless there is some valid reason to require on-campus housing.
