Summer Mission
The Randolph-Macon College Summer Session is a unique opportunity for traditional and non-traditional students. A variety of classes and other activities provide students the chance to fulfill general education requirements, explore majors and minors, engage in close work with faculty members, pursue academic interests including independent research, or to take classes as a “bridge” experience preparatory to freshman year. The Summer Session is open to current R-MC students as well as others, including students from other institutions who wish to complete transfer work or take specific courses they need.
How to Enroll for the Summer Session
If you are a current R-MC student, you simply go the MY MACON WEB during the spring semester open enrollment period and add summer courses. A typical load is one to two courses, not including GNED 100 (you should consult with your academic advisor before signing up for more than two regular courses).
If you are a student from another institution, a potential high school graduate or an incoming R-MC freshman or if you just want to take coursework during the summer you must fill out the brief Summer Session Application form and submit it to the college. A copy of this form with directions is in the current Summer Session Catalog. Please note that admission to the R-MC Summer Session does not constitute admittance to R-MC as a degree-seeking student.
You can also complete and submit this enrollment form electronically by clicking here: ONLINE SUMMER APPLICATION.
There is a non-refundable $30.00 application fee that also must be sent to the college when you apply.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will coming to Summer School help my academic standing?
Taking summer coursework at R-MC often helps R-MC students improve their academic standing. This is largely due to the smaller class sizes, the reduced number of courses a student usually takes (one or two), the possibility of additional academic support (GNED 100), and the fact that the Summer Session is treated as part of the Spring Semester for some academic decisions.
Can I get financial aid for the Summer Session?
Yes! Current R-MC students can use aid left in their current year’s package toward the Summer Session. There are also a variety of employment opportunities on campus that can help defray expenses.
What if I have other things I need to do this summer?
Currently, the college offers both six week courses, and a small number of four week courses. There is still a significant portion of the summer available outside these times for work, travel, family, etc.
