Semester abroad programs are offered for one semester, two semesters, or a year, depending on the program.
To apply, students must:
- have at least a 2.25 cumulative Randolph-Macon College grade point average (some programs require higher GPAs.)
- submit a completed study abroad application packet to the Office of International Education.
- for programs taught in languages other than English, possess sufficient language skills, as determined by the respective program directors.
To participate, students must:
- have completed 48 semester hours of college course work before embarking on their period of study abroad
- attend a pre-departure orientation session conducted by the Office of International Education
- pay the $200 program fee.
In addition to an interview by the selection committee, additional prerequisites may include state of health, medical insurance, parent or guardian approval, and consultation with the academic advisor and the Dean of Students.
Students usually register for the courses offered abroad while at Randolph-Macon. This is done by completing a Semester Abroad Credit Permission Form available from the Office of International Education. Credit transfer for semester abroad courses can be assured only if the program and specific courses have been pre-approved by the college through the Office of International Education, the Registrar's office, and applicable department chairs. In most cases and whenever it is possible, the academic regulations of Randolph-Macon are adhered to abroad: course load, deficiency notification, grading system, academic probation, etc.
