Artist's Biography
Johnston Foster's work is, in his own words, created from an “alchemic processâ€. He is a hunter and gatherer of sorts, finding and then reconfiguring objects and other materials most would consider to be trash. There is a thoughtful yet immediate quality to Foster's work. His work is highly imaginative. In this particular installation, Foster explores the conversation between formal and narrative qualities of objects.
Foster received a MFA from Hunter College located in New York City in 2005, and a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, located in Richmond, VA in 2001. In 2003 he attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Foster has shown internationally including exhibitions in France, the Czech Republic, and Germany. His national exhibitions include San Francisco, Los Angeles, Utah, and New York City. Foster teaches at Virginia Commonwealth University. He is represented by RARE Gallery, NY. All works in this exhibition are courtesy of the artist and RARE Gallery, NY.

Lori Nix
Recent Photographs from the City Series
The second exhibition of our 2011-2012 gallery season is a grouping of photographs by Brooklyn based artist Lori Nix. Nix creates incredibly intricate dioramas that are then photographed and printed in a large-scale format. The work in this exhibition features selections from her most recent body of work, "The City". In this work Nix portrays a world reclaimed by nature and empty of human inhabitants. Nix's depictions of a failing future and the demise of humanity are tempered with subtle humor.
The exhibition opens on Friday, November 4, 2011. There will be areception in honor of the artist on Sunday, November 6, 2011 from 3-5 PM. Allare welcome to attend.
