The history of Africa is uncertain due to the custom of African tribes to pass traditions orally. As a result, the origin of the Ga-Adangbe people is uncertain. One generally accepted theory suggests that the proto-Ga-Adangbe people migrated west across the Accra plains from somewhere near Nigeria. Another belief is that the proto-Ga-Adangbe came from beyond the West African coast. Despite uncertainty involving the origin of the ancestors of the Ga-Adangbe, it is widely accepted that they had settled in the Accra plains by the thirteenth century.
