Culture

Children play an enormous role in Ghanaian culture; they are the true meaning of Sankofa. Sankofa means to go back to your roots, and there is no past without the children to remember it. The children carry on the traditional culture as westernization takes over Ghana, and it is up to them to remember the past and continue what their ancestors did thousands of years ago. Ghanaian culture consists of generosity, patriotism, music, dancing, food, agriculture, education, and football. Ghanaians love and take pride in every aspect of their culture and country especially the children

Children are the future leaders in Ghanaian society, but they must respect and take care of their ancestors and also remember the past. Parents know that their children are the future and they also know that they are the ones who will continue traditional practices of the past. Ghanaians put their children through school, so that they can fit in to a more modern society as well as take care of the people and family who took care of them. Ghanaians also teach their children traditional dance and music and other cultural practices so that the children can teach it to their children to keep tradition and culture alive. Food is another cultural attribute that is taught to Ghanaian girls, traditional food usually consists of rice, chicken, plantains, and other types of fruits.

Patriotism and generosity are perhaps the biggest part of the Ghanaian culture. Patriotism is wrapped around football. Many of the young boys in Ghana played football or supported the Black Stars of Ghana. Just riding on a bus or even the local transportation the tro tro you can see little boys or even young men playing football, sometimes without a net to score in. Football is a big part of Ghanaian culture, and it is just about every little boys dream to be apart of a football team or the Black Stars. There is patriotism every where in Ghana children and adults wear the colors of the Ghanaian flag everywhere you go. Children in Ghana are also genuinely nice and generous, they wave to you where ever you go, as well as assist you if you need help. Adults are nice too but they think that every foreigner is rich so they use niceness to get what they what. Children just want a friend to talk to and play with. Children are the ones who carry the cultural past with them, without children there is no traditional culture in the future.
