“There is no past without the children to remember it.”
The symbol Sankofa displays a bird holding an egg (the future) in its beak. The bird is moving forward while looking backwards towards the past. As a developing country, Ghana is, like the Sankofa, looking towards the future while still trying to embrace its proud history. In the spirit of looking to the future, we decided to focus on the children of Ghana.
Our group encountered children at nearly every stop throughout our two weeks and saw them in many different venues: working in the economy, embracing traditional culture, going to school, and playing with friends. Hopefully the following pages will give some insight into the life of a child in Ghana. Enjoy!
