The Black Stars
The Ghanaian national football team is known as the Black Stars. The team is managed by the Ghana Football association. They made their first appearance in the world cup of 2006 and performed very well. In fact, they even beat the United States. The Black Stars are coached by Claude LeRoy, and their captain is Stephen Appiah who is number ten. Their key players are Michael Essien, Asamoah Gyan, Laryea Kingson, Sulley Muntari, and Junior Agogo. They have three minor league teams called the Starlets, the Satellites, and the Meteors.

One of the most popular players on the Black Stars football team is Micheal Essien. He is a 5' 11'' midfielder from Accra, Ghana. Essien played for Ghana's minor league teams before making it big and joining the Black Stars. He is also a player for the well respected Chelsea Football Club. In 2006 he was ranked third best player in Africa for the second year in a row. He is on billboards and in commercials throughout Ghana, and is a world renown football player..
The Black Stars are four time Africa Cup of Nations champions, winning in 1963, 1965, 1978, and 1982. In the 2008 African Cup they are currently undefeated. They have beaten Morocco, Namibia, and Guinea. Their biggest competitor in the 2008 African Cup is Cote D'Ivoire. They have a great chance of winning this year's Africa Cup.
