In The Stands
Attending the football match between Ghana and Namibia turned the hype of all the Ghanaian people in the street into a reality. From the moment we stepped off the bus in the vicinity of the stadium we could feel the energy of the people and the atmosphere. There were vendors of all types surrounding the stadium selling every type of Ghana themed merchandise you can imagine, they had jerseys, headbands, bracelets, and flags. People were dressed from head to toe in red, yellow, and green, some even in full body paint and were all beyond excited to be there. The stadium was packed and it took us a while to get all the way to our seats. The energy in the stadium was so much

fun, it was impossible to not get drawn into the excitement. People would cheer for every good play made and were out of their seats every time Ghana brought the ball into scoring range. When Ghana did score the sole goal of the game the stadium erupted with celebration. The amount of excitement and joy was overwhelming and fun to be a part of. Even as Westerners, we and many others from Europe were able to become emersed in the jubilation.

It is astounding how the football culture brings the whole country together because of their common love for the game and the culture. People of all ages all around the country love football. The Ghanaian people are a prime example of patriotism and love of their country and love of a sport. They were proud to be hosting the Africa Cup in their own country and were so proud of their own team. Ghana won the game 1-0 over Namibia, which led to a night of celebrating in the entire city of Accra.
