Virginia was one of five children born to Abram and Mary Henry on September 8, 1905. 
She lived and grew up on Hickory Hills Plantation owned by the Wickham family here in Virginia until 1923.
She received her education from the Virginia Randolph School before marrying Charles Shelton in 1926 at the age of 21. They had four children together.
After marriage she moved to Ashland and has lived here ever since.
Bought the house that she is living in now in 1936. The house was built in 1918. This house is now called Historic Shelton House it is on Berkley Street.
Virginia worked as a housekeeper and also at a shirt factory.
She left her job at the shirt factory because she refused to sign a petition to leave the union, she was the only one!
She then went back to school at the Monique School in Richmond to become a nurse.
Joining the Providence Baptist Church in 1917, Virginia is now considered the Mother of the Church
Virginia retired at the age of 63.
