Political Science: Career and Postgraduate Opportunities
A degree in political science provides students with numerous career choices. Some of our more recent majors have entered graduate programs in law, political science, urban affairs, mass communications, public administration, business administration, and accounting.
Graduates have attended such academic institutions as the University of Virginia, University of South Carolina, University of Delaware, Rutgers University, Tulane University,Georgetown University, and George Washington University. The diversity of careers of those who do not go to graduate school may be best illustrated by initial employment of political science majors from a recent graduating class.
The careers entered were as follows: systems analysts for a defense contractor in Washington, D.C.; cryptological technician for the U.S. Government; accounting clerk for Arlington County; sales representative for Marriott Hotels; regional coordinator for parks and recreation; management trainee for a national investment firm; high school social studies teacher; research assistant for a non-governmental national research agency; assistant to the manager of a large Atlanta department store; revenue officer for the IRS; and security operations controller for Mobil Oil.
